DPP leader expresses intent of pulling Denmark out of international human rights mechanisms.
The leader of the extreme right Danish People’s Party, expressed yesterday the intent of pulling Denmark out of international human rights conventions. The DPP is the parliamentary support for the current Danish government. Pia Kjaersgaard, the leader of the party explained that such drastic action needed to be taken when it has proved to be legally impossible to prevent a Tunisian man, accused by the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) of participating in a plan to murder the cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, from living with his family in the same city as the cartoonist. Kurt Westergaard drew the caricature that provoked demonstrations and attacks on Danish embassies, as well as boycotts of Danish products. The Tunisian man has never had his case tried in a court of law, but has been forced to live in a refugee camp near Copenhagen.
